More coverage of the NFL Draft and the Tennessee Vols’ Director’s Cup standings lead our Volunteers news for Friday, April 27, 2018.

Happy Friday! We’ve reached the final Friday for the month of April, and like the Tennessee Vols football program last year, there have been too many dark days…literally. When is the sunny spring weather going to get here for good? It’s here in some places, such as today in Knoxville. But it’s inconsistent.

Well, while we wait for that to permanently arrive, there is still plenty of spring news to bring you this morning. Today’s updates on Rocky Top include more coverage of the NFL Draft along with where UT comes in with important standings.

We also have previews of two separate spring sporting events to bring you. So there’s plenty of news to get ready for this weekend. As always, though, we’re going to start with what’s most closely related to football.

Tennessee Vols relation to NFL Draft – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

No Tennessee football players were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft Thursday. However, there are still some projected late-rounders. And the real story for Rocky Top was the impact on so many players in the draft that current UT coaches had, from Sam Darnold at USC to Alabama talent.

"New Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt and his assistant coaches combined to sign, develop or coach — and all three, in some cases — seven of the first 23 picks and eight of the first 29 picks in the draft."

Tennessee Vols move up in Director’s Cup – Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel

The University of Tennessee is getting slightly better with its overall athletic department. This is not really due to Phillip Fulmer, but since he took over as athletic director, the Vols have moved up in the Director’s Cup standings.

"The Vols, who ranked No. 85 in the first installment of rankings, rose to 38th behind a strong winter sports campaign."

Tennessee baseball visits Georgia – UTSports

After losing a midweek game to the Tennessee Tech Golden Eagles but shockingly taking last weekend’s series against the Texas A&M Aggies, the Tennessee Vols are back on the road this weekend. The 24-19 team travels to Athens to take on the No. 20 ranked Georgia Bulldogs in a three-game series beginning tonight at 7 p.m.

"The Volunteers will be playing their fifth, sixth and seventh consecutive games against a ranked opponent this weekend when they face the Bulldogs."

Tennessee softball hosts Kentucky – UTSports

The No. 6 ranked Tennessee Lady Vols softball team will host its final home series of the regular season against the No. 20 ranked Kentucky Wildcats. The series begins tonight at 6 p.m.

"Tennessee (40-9, 10-8 SEC) looks to build off the success of last weekend when it won two of three games at Alabama."
