The Tennessee Vols are in the postseason for most of their spring sports, and the end of spring football news at the pro and college level means it truly is May. But the news in that sport does not end at all.

Softball is about to begin its postseason, and baseball is two weeks away. But neither makes our news. As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, our news centers around two of the big football things that actually happen in the spring. On top of that, we have two postseason updates in different spring sports to bring you.

So there’s a lot of things that continue to happen in Knoxville. Let’s start with the two football stories that we teased.

USA TODAY Sports released its post spring practice rankings for all 130 FBS teams, and the Tennessee Vols came in at No. 66. The Arkansas Razorbacks, Kentucky Wildcats, Ole Miss Rebels, and Vanderbilt Commodores were the only SEC teams ranked below them.

"The start of the Jeremy Pruitt era at Tennessee will be a success if it ends in the postseason."

Tennessee football offensive lineman Trey Smith was the only Vol who made Chad Reuter’s list of top 150 college players to watch for 2018. He came in at No. 66.

"Each player’s rating is based partially on their value to their college football team and partly on their talent as an NFL prospect. No matter which way you look at it, these guys are going to be fun to watch next fall."

Women’s golf tied for fourth place at regional – UTSports

The Tennessee Lady Vols finished Monday tied for fourth place at the NCAA Tallahassee Regional. They shot three-under 285 and were led by sophomore Michaela Williams, who tied for third after going five-under 67.

"“Today was a good start for us,” head coach Judi Pavon said. “We were pretty steady on the back nine, which is where we started. At the turn, we lost several shots but bounced back with some birdies at the end and counted three birdies on the last hole which was good.”"

Swimmer David Heron wins men’s 5K race – James Sutherland, USA Swimming

Tennessee Vols swimmer Devid Heron finished the men’s 5K race in 54 minutes, 29.921 seconds at the USA Swimming Open Water National Championships at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe, Ariz.

"“My plan was to draft as much as possible the first two laps, take it easy and then that last lap see if I could get ahead of everyone toward the end,” said Heron. “It was a bit quicker than I was expecting, but in all it went well.”"
