Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Peyton Manning teaming up with Tiger Woods leads our Volunteers news for Thursday, May 17, 1988.

May is now over halfway over, and there continues to be a variety of news surrounding the Tennessee Vols on a daily basis. Today is no different, with the most famous former Vol ever getting back into the news.

As we get set to bring you our updates on Rocky Top, a Peyton Manning story leads the way. But there is also news surrounding people currently affiliated with the Tennessee football program, so we discuss that as well.

On top of that, there is a preview of the final series of a regular season in one sport and the recap of the end of the season in another sport. So we have plenty to get to, but let’s start with Manning.

Manning joins Tiger Woods in pro-am golf outing – Andrew Walker, Colts.com

Tennessee football legend Peyton Manning is pairing up with Tigers Woods at the Memorial Pro-Am Golf Outing in Dublin, Ohio. The former Vol legend rivaled Woods for most popular sports athlete in the 2000s, so this is a legendary pairing.

"The last time Peyton Manning and Tiger Woods paired up on the golf course, Manning was able to inspire Woods to reclaim his throne atop the world golf rankings.Now hot on the comeback trail once again, Woods is apparently in need of a little more inspiration."

Will Friend embracing OL expectations – Grant Ramey, GoVols247

Tennessee football offensive line coach Will Friend is embracing expectations. Friend was hired away from Colorado State and said he is focusing on bringing toughness to the offensive line and making sure the unit is team-oriented.

"“What I like most about Tennessee is the expectations,” Friend said in a ‘Field Level’ social media video feature released Wednesday by Tennessee. “It’s our job as coaches is to get where Tennessee where its supposed to be. You see how hungry Vol Nation is. Those things jump out right away.”"

Tennessee baseball begins series vs. Missouri – Al Lesar, Knoxville News Sentinel

The Tennessee Vols will travel to Columbia to face the Missouri Tigers in their final series of the regular season with a chance to go to the SEC Tournament. The team that wins two of the three games in the series will go to the tournament. Tennessee’s first game begins this evening at 6:30 p.m.

"The Vols (28-25, 11-16 SEC) are one game ahead of Missouri (32-20, 10-17)."

Men’s golf finishes season at Columbus Regional – UTSports

Tennessee Vols men’s golf finished its season Wednesday after tying for 10th place at Columbus Regional. They finished NCAA regional play 48-over.

"Senior Lorenzo Scalise rounded out his collegiate career with a tie for 28th place, shooting 8-over (73-71-77–221) for the tournament for the Vols’ best overall score."
