The Tennessee Vols Big Orange Caravan stopping in Nashville and baseball and basketball news lead the Volunteers updates for Friday, May 18, 2018.

Happy Friday to all of UT Nation. The Tennessee Vols are still out generating quite a bit of news as we go deeper into the second half of May, and we’re not just talking about the sports that are going on right now.

As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, football and basketball lead our updates again. It’s related to another Big Orange Caravan stop with Phillip Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt.

On top of that, we have a men’s basketball story to bring you. And there’s coverage of a baseball regular season series and a preview of the start of the softball postseason. But let’s begin by bringing you the caravan updates.

Big Orange Caravan stops in Nashville – UTSports

Rick Barnes, Phillip Fulmer and Jeremy Pruitt all spoke to the media as the Big Orange Caravan stopped in Nashville Thursday. Barnes addressed the Tennessee Vols losing Riley Davis, Pruitt reflected on his playing career, and both Fulmer and Pruitt talked about the importance of recruiting Nashville talent.

"Nearly 1,000 Tennessee fans ignored an outside storm and packed the concourse at Nissan Stadium on Thursday night for the 52nd Annual All-Sports Picnic – the third stop of the 2018 Big Orange Caravan."

Tennessee baseball falls at Missouri – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

The Tennessee Vols baseball team fell to the Missouri Tigers 3-2 in 12 innings in Columbia. With two more games on Friday and Saturday, they now have to win both if they are going to make the SEC Tournament. Friday’s game will begin at 7:30 p.m.

"The Vols set a new program record with 21 strikeouts in a single game, but that record wasn’t nearly as important as Thursday’s bottom-line result."

Lady Vols softball to begin postseason play – Dan Fleser, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee softball begins postseason play Friday evening, hosting an NCAA Regional that includes Monmouth, Ohio and James Madison. They will face Monmouth at 5:30 p.m. as the No. 10 overall seed in the NCAA Tournament. Here’s a bit of what Ralph Weekly said about the double-elimination weekend.

"“I feel good about our team; I mean I think our team could get to Oklahoma City. I think every coach, when they’re standing here, should think that. But I think our team could go to Oklahoma City. We have to win them one game at a time.”"
