Fire-for-cause provisions in Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer’s contract leads our Volunteers news for Monday, May 21, 2018.

Happy Monday! At least in May, it comes with spring weather, sun, and a few postseason events surrounding the Tennessee Vols. That’s exactly part of our morning report today given what happened over the weekend.

As we get set to bring you our morning report on Rocky Top, the results of two teams in postseason play are a big part of it. Another is the fact that one team did not make postseason play, and we’ll discuss that here. The Tennessee Vols baseball team lost a win-or-go-home regular season finale game to the Missouri Tigers on Saturday, just missing the SEC Tournament in Tony Vitello’s first year.

However, amidst all of that, the biggest news actually surrounds more details in the contract of the university athletic director. In fact, despite the news surrounding other sports, we’re going to begin with this.

26 ways Phillip Fulmer could be fired for cause – Blake Toppmeyer, Knoxville News Sentinel

Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer could be fired for cause in 26 different ways, according to more details in his contract. Getting too drunk to perform his duties is one of the ways. There are seven provisions in here that did not exist in John Currie’s contract, giving the university more room to work with. A part of these provisions specifically deals with Title IX in light of a lawsuit the university recently settled.

"Two of the new provisions in Fulmer’s contract pertain to areas of Title IX law, which requires universities to protect students from sexual violence, harassment and discrimination."

Tennessee softball advances to NCAA Super Regional – Wes Rucker, GoVols247

The Tennessee Lady Vols softball team defeated James Madison and Ohio over the weekend to advance to the NCAA Super Regional. A No. 10 seed, they travel to Athens now to face the No. 7 seed Georgia Bulldogs for a three-game series. The winner advances to the Women’s College World Series.

"The most consistently good program in the Tennessee athletic department in the past decade is still doing its thing.A three-run third inning and a two-run sixth innings provided all the offense in Tennessee’s 5-1, regional-clinching win over Ohio on Sunday at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium."

Micheala Williams advances to NCAA Medal Championship round – UTSports

Tennessee women’s golfer Micheala Williams shot a 72 on Sunday in Oklahoma and enters the final round of stroke play in the NCAA Championships tied for 17th.

"“Micheala had a much steadier round today than yesterday,” head coach Judi Pavon said. “She was good off the tee again and took advantage of the par 5’s today which is where she struggled yesterday. She made a couple of good par-saving putts and took advantage of her birdie opportunities.”"
