The Tennessee basketball program received great news on Tuesday with the announcement of Admiral Schofield returning for his senior season. Which this news isn’t that surprising. However, undoubtedly, extremely refreshing for Vol fans.

This comes after a season where Schofield displayed a First-Team All-SEC selection production. After losing to Loyola-Chicago in the NCAA Tournament, he decided to enter his name in the 2018 NBA Draft. Schofield didn’t hire an agent, giving him the opportunity to return to school.

During his time working out for NBA teams, he gained a learning experience that most players don’t get. Honestly, it is an opportunity that every player should take advantage of, and Grant Williams could be next in the same fashion next season.

Tennessee won 26 games last season, and Schofield was a massive part of that success. In 28 minutes he was able to score 13.9 points per game which was good enough for second best on the team only behind the SEC Player of the Year in Grant Williams.

After the move to the wing position, Schofield became a new player attempting almost three more three-point shots a game. He also grew into a go-to player for the Vols in some games where Williams struggled.

There was a four-game stretch last season where Schofield dominated the opposing teams. He scored 16 points against Florida, 25 against Ole Miss, 24 against Mississippi State, and 23 against Georiga.

The past season saw increases in a lot of statistical categories including three-point shooting percentage, more rebounds, more assist, more blocks, more steals, and more points.

It is hard to state just how valuable Schofield will be for the Vols next season. Tennessee is a team that only loses James Daniell III next season and should be in a fabulous position to make a run at a Final Four, something that has never been done in program history.
