Tennessee Vols basketball recruiting, a Joshua Dobbs youth camp and Brett Kendrick lead the Volunteers news for Monday, June 4, 2018.

We are now hitting the dog days of summer for the Tennessee Vols. It’s still technically spring, but these next few weeks will all be about the countdown to the start of football season and a new era under head coach Jeremy Pruitt.

As we get set to bring you today’s updates on Rocky Top, football is actually a huge part of it. Two of the stories center around former Vols and things they were involved in with the weekend, but one of those former Vols dealt with lots of current Vols.

However, ironically, football is not actually the top story of the day. That’s odd for this school when you’re in the middle of June. But we begin by bringing you some crucial basketball news over the weekend.

Vols lose one commitment, pick up another – Mike Wilson, Knoxville News Sentinel

It all started Friday night to kick off the weekend. The men’s Tennessee Vols basketball program received a commitment from four-star center D.J. Burns for 2018. Burns adds immediate depth to the Vols post game and sets up Rick Barnes for the future after this year. However, on Saturday, they lost graduate transfer Khwan Fore, who once committed to the team but then announced he’d join the Louisville Cardinals instead.

"The 6-foot, 175-pound Fore averaged 11.0 points, 2.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game last season at Richmond. He is immediately eligible and has one season to play as a graduate transfer."

Joshua Dobbs holds youth camp – Louis Fernandez, WBIR

Former Tennessee football quarterback Joshua Dobbs joined with a group of former and current Vols to put on a youth camp Saturday. Dobbs was joined by Brett Kendrick, Todd Kelly Jr. and Jarrett Guarantano.

"“Football is a very complex game and people can make it very complex, but when you come on the field, just have fun,” said Dobbs. “Growing up playing the game, so you should enjoy doing it anytime you get the opportunity.”"

Brett Kendrick signs with Steelers – Patrick Brown, GoVols247

After being waived by the Detroit Lions in May, Brett Kendrick is now joining Joshua Dobbs and a host of other former Tennessee Vols players in Pittsburgh. He said he got the call over the weekend.

"Kendrick, a former star at the Christian Academy of Knoxville who was a two-year starter for the Vols, will give the Steelers a seventh former Tennessee player on their roster."
