Three Tennessee Vols on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot and women’s basketball scheduling lead the Volunteers news for Tuesday, June 5, 2018.

Happy first Tuesday in June! The news is supposed to be fading away with most sports seasons coming to an end, but it seems like the opposite is true with the Tennessee Vols. Huge updates keep popping up on a daily basis.

As we get set to bring you our morning headlines on Rocky Top for today, football once again leads the way. And like Monday, it’s with a heavy focus on former Vols. Well, this is something that is a huge honor and deals exclusively with former players.

Meanwhile, there are honors in other sports to give out as well. We’ll focus on a postseason recognition in one women’s sport, and we’ll also touch on future scheduling in another women’s sport.

So there’s a lot to get to for this morning. Let’s start with the major football news that everybody should be paying attention to.

Three Tennessee Vols on College Football HoF ballotNFF online

The National Football Foundation announced Monday that former Tennessee Vols Bobby Majors, Larry Seivers and Al Wilson are among the 76 FBS legends on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot this year. Majors and Seivers both starred in different times during Bill Battle’s tenure. However, Wilson is the biggest star of the group, achieving All-American honors and leading the program to a national championship in 1998.

"The announcement of the 2019 Class will be made Monday, Jan. 7, 2019, in Santa Clara, Calif. The city is serving as the host for the CFP National Championship, which will be played later that day at Levi’s Stadium."

Lady Vols SEC schedule rotation out through 2021 – UTSports

The SEC released its scheduling rotation for women’s basketball through the next three years. The rotation works around a process that includes 16 conference games a year with home and away match-ups involving one permanent opponent and two rotating opponents.

"In 2019, Tennessee will host Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, LSU and South Carolina, while the Lady Vols will travel to Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Texas A&M. UT will face home and away contests vs. permanent opponent Vanderbilt and rotating foes Auburn and Missouri."

Meghan Gregg a Google Cloud Academic All-American – CoSIDA online

Tennessee Lady Vols softball player Meghan Gregg was named to a second-team Google Cloud Academic All-American Monday. The list was released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

"No less than 29 of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with 19 student-athletes maintaining a 4.00 GPA (or better) as either undergraduate or graduate students. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97."
