What a game this matchup turned out to be one of the most memorable of the 21st century. And, I remember it like it was yesterday.

  • Number one team in the nation was coming to town, and the Vols were on upset alert. Now, no one thought Tennessee could actually beat Kansas, after all, they were ranked number one.

For the fans that were at the game, the crowd was terrific. If you were there, you know that it was one of the best crowds that Thompson-Boling has seen.

The hero of the game? Well hold on, first, this was the first game the Vols were without Tyler Smith, Cameron Tatum, Melvin Goins, and Brian Williams.

But back to the hero, walk-on Skylar McBee hit a huge three as the shot clock expired. Well, McBee hit two huge three’s to help Tennessee knock off the number one ranked  Jayhawks.

The Vols got big games for Bobbie Maze with 16 points and Scotty Hopson with 17 points, and although McBee only had six points that game, they couldn’t have been more clutch.

Without McBee, the Vols probably wouldn’t have won that game, and it would have never made our top ten list.

Final score: Tennessee 76, Kansas 68
