No. 2 Grade – B
These coaches are on the cusp of being great coaches. Obviously, there is some work to do to prove they are worthy of an A rating.

And, in Kirby Smart’s case, he just needs more years to prove it.
Kirby Smart
University of Georgia
21-7 Overall Record
I might get killed for this one, especially now that Kirby Smart has a 21-7 record as a head coach. After an 8-5 first season, Smart led the Bulldogs to a 13-2 record which included an SEC Title and National Champion runner-ups.
Some could argue that Smart could be rated in the A category. However, some could argue that he is winning with a lot of Mark Richt’s talent.
Gus Malzahn
Auburn University
54-25 Overall Record (college)
Gus Malzahn has one of the coolest stories in college football. He started his career in the high school ranks and now is leading a big-time SEC program.
I am not an Auburn fan, but Malzahn gets unfair criticism. In five seasons with the Tigers, Malzahn has a 45-22 record and has won the SEC West twice. Something that most people forget.
He has to play Alabama every season and being compared to Nick Saban makes it unfair to Malzahn.
Will Muschamp
University of South Carolina
43-32 Overall Record
Will Muschamp started his career at the University of Florida in 2011. After a 7-6 season, Muschamp led the Gators 11-2 with an SEC East Division Title. However, Florida ran him out of town, and now he is with South Carolina.
In his second season with the Gamecocks, Muschamp led South Carolina to a 9-4 season which was good enough for second in the SEC East.
There are high expectations for the Gamecocks this upcoming season. We will see how the future pans out in the next couple of seasons.
Dana Holgorsen
West Virginia University
53-37 Overall Record
For us in our ranking system, Dana Holgorsen was tough to rank. He could easily be considered an A grade or a C grade but the determining factor was only one Conference Championship and that came in the Big East.
Since 2012 when the Mountaineers joined the Big 12 Conference, Holgorsen has only had one ten win season. And, even in that ten win season, West Virginia finished third in the conference.
