There is no question the Tennessee football program has one of the toughest schedules in the nation every season. But, there are just some teams we would love to see the Vols play.

Each season it becomes more common that Power 5 teams play tougher non-conference opponents. That holds true for Tennessee football as well. Just take a look at the past couple of seasons.

This season the Vols open up with the West Virginia Mountaineers which is a big-time matchup in the college football world. Last season, Tennessee opened with Georgia Tech which was a 42-41 overtime thriller.

Then if you can remember, in 2016 the Vols played Virginia Tech in the Battle of Bristol. Seasons before that, Oklahoma and Oregon came to town. So, in recent years Tennessee played strong top ten opponents and will continue in the future.

And, wondering if the Vols should start scheduling cupcakes is a different discussion for a different day. In the early years of the College Football Playoff, it hasn’t necessarily paid off to schedule tough. Nonetheless, big time matchups are what the fans want and what is best for the program.

There is no question Tennessee is one of the most storied football programs in the history of college football. So, in this post we are going to give the top five teams we would love for the Vols to play in a home and home series.

Now, there are 50 teams that would be cool to see in Neyland Stadium, but we had to narrow it down to the top five and here is our list.
