No. 2 Miami Hurricanes

Coming in at number two on our list is the Miami Hurricanes, who is also a part of the ACC Conference. Miami is another team that has a small history of playing the Vols. Only three games but those three games have been somewhat entertaining.

  • The last time the two programs met was in 2003 where the Vols won in a 10-6 defensive battle. However, just the year before Miami into Knoxville and beat Tennessee 26-3.

Now, in fairness to the Tennessee players, Miami was ranked second in the nation and had running backs, Willis McGahee and Frank Gore. Oh and a wide receiver by the name Andre Johnson.

But, the most memorable games from the two teams was the 1986 Sugar Bowl. Miami again was ranked second in the nation and was the “bad boys” of college football. Tennessee wasn’t a pushover by any means. They were ranked eighth in the nation and came into the game where the media gave them no chance.

So, of course, what happens in the game? The Vols win 35-7 and wins one of the most memorable games in Sugar Bowl history.

I failed to mention that Mark Richt is the coach for the Hurricanes now and if Vols fans didn’t have enough of him at Georgia that could schedule him with Miami.
