Alvin Kamara only played for Tennessee football for two years. And we all know about how Butch Jones severely misused him during that time. However, he still was able to have a major impact as a return man during his time on Rocky Top.

Truly living up to his expectations as an all-purpose back, Kamara only had one punt return for a touchdown with the Vols. But he was always a major threat, which is why we were able to put him on this list.

In 2015 amd 2016, he fielded 26 punts for 284 yards, an incredible average of 10.9 yards per return for his career. In fact, he only fielded eight punts in 2015 and had 100 yards total that year for an average of 12.5 yards a punt return.

Looking at that, it’s clear the return game was another area where Jones criminally underused Kamara. We already know about his underuse at running back. The guy had 1,294 yards and 16 touchdowns in two years and averaged over six yards a carry on the ground while also catching 74 passes for 683 yards and another seven touchdowns.

Looking at these numbers, we can only question why Jones didn’t use Kamara more in every situation. But that especially applies to the kickoff and punt return game, where Kamara was an elite superstar. He is one of the greatest Vols in history with the ball in open space. And he rarely got a chance to show that for the university.
