2019 Tennessee football top defensive tackle targets

Tymon Mitchell; 4-star; 6’3″ 285 lbs; Nashville, Tenn.; Franklin Road Academy

Tennessee football is in a fight for this in-state prospect, but they can’t let him get away. Coming out of Nashville, Tymon Mitchell would be huge for the Vols when it comes to depth, and he could be a great player for them for the future. Right now, the 247Sports Crystal Ball has the Vols and the Vanderbilt Commodores tied as the favorites to land him, and the Georgia Bulldogs and Stanford Cardinal are also in play. They need to make sure they get him.

Steven Faucheux; 4-star; 6’4″ 269 lbs; West Chester, Ohio; Lakota West High School

Steven Faucheux brings serious versatility to Tennessee football because of the fact that he could move over to defensive end if needed given his slim frame. The Vols could choose whether or not he needs to add weight. Coming from Southern Ohio, he has a direct pipeline into Rocky Top. And his top two schools are the Vols and Penn State Nittany Lions. So Jeremy Pruitt and co. have a lot of work to do because it’ll be a fight to get this guy.

Ben Smiley; 4-star; 6’6″ 260 lbs; Chesapeake, Va.; Indian River High School

Tennessee football is among 10 schools fighting to land four-star defensive end Ben Smiley, and all of them could get him. The teams with the chances to get him are spread out across the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Big 12. Like Fauchex, Smiley brings an incredible amount of versatility to the Vols because he could probably play defensive end. Tennessee’s pipeline as an SEC school into the Virginia region is a big deal too. Simply put, the Vols could have a lot to offer, so keep an eye on this guy.

D’Von Ellies; 4-star; 6’3″ 280 lbs; Owings Mills, Md.; McDonogh High School

Tennessee football could move even further up into the DMV pipeline with D’Von Ellies. That’s gotten harder recently with the Maryland Terrapins joining the Big Ten, giving other major schools a pipeline into that region, most notably the Penn State Nittany Lions. But if he wants to go to the SEC, the Vols are right there. As a result, keep an eye on where Ellies ends up.
