Las Vegas oddsmakers have the Vols as a longshot to win the SEC and the Eastern Division. If you like to bet, the numbers are in your favor.

No surprise but Tennessee football isn’t the favorite to win the SEC. They aren’t the favorite to win the SEC Eastern division either.

However, if you like taking longshots, Tennessee could be the team for you. And, you never know, maybe the football team can surprise the nation just like the basketball team did last season. The basketball team was projected to finished 13th in the SEC. And, we all know where they finished.

The football team seems to be in a similar situation. Here are the odds for each SEC team.

Alabama: 5-7

Georgia: 13-4

Auburn: 17-2

Mississippi State: 15-1

Florida: 18-1

LSU: 25-1

Texas A&M: 25-1

South Carolina: 33-1

Missouri: 40-1

Tennessee: 66-1

Arkansas: 80-1

Kentucky: 100-1

Vanderbilt: 150-1

So, they aren’t projected 13th. However, Tennessee is near the bottom with 66-1 odds to win the SEC. Now, it’s silly to suggest that the Vols have a chance at winning the SEC. That means possibly beating Alabama or Auburn twice, along with Georiga and Florida. Obviously, that probably isn’t going to happen.

Moving on the just the Eastern division the Vols have a better chance, but the odds still aren’t great. However, if you’re going to take a chance, the better odds are on the division.

The Georiga Bulldogs are the clear favorites (4-7) with Florida slightly behind them (9-2). South Carolina follows (17-2) and Missouri (10-1) is the fourth team in front of the Vols.

According to the odds, the Vols (14-1) are the 5th most likely team to win the SEC East. Now, that sounds about right considering the shape Tennessee is in.

However, Jeremy Pruitt seems like he knows what he is doing. We wouldn’t be surprised one bit for the Vols to win a game or two that they aren’t supposed to win.

Finally rounding out the SEC East are Kentucky (22-1) and Vanderbilt (28-1). Does anyone ever look at Vanderbilt’s number and think it might be a good investment? Honestly, not sure why it’s 28-1, should be more like 100-1.

Tennessee’s odds aren’t the best and that doesn’t surprise anyone. However, within the next couple of seasons, look for the Vols to be near the top of the list.
