Tennessee football: Jimbo Fisher loving on Vols head coach Jeremy Pruitt
At least one coach in the SEC thinks Jeremy Pruitt was a solid hire for the Vols. Look what Jimbo Fisher had to say about the first-year head coach.

There is a lot to look forward to when SEC media days roll around. Well, kinda. Media days honestly aren’t that exciting. There is a lot of coach speak, and the players are taught not to say anything that is going to make their respected universities look bad.
Volnation didn’t expect much out of the first two days with Tennessee football not on the docket until Wednesday. However, new head coach of the Texas A&M Aggies, Jimbo Fisher, had a few kind things to say about Jeremy Pruitt.
Pruitt was the defensive coordinator for the 2013 National Championship team at Florida State under Jimbo Fisher. That year Florida State went 14-0 with a win over the Auburn Tigers in the National Championship Game.
That season, Pruitt’s defense gave up 136 rushing yards, 201 passing yards and 21.9 points per game. Here’s what Jimbo Fisher had to say about the first-year head coach.
"He did a great job of being very multiple in the looks he has and has a great knowledge of the game. He could have been a head coach a long time ago and he’s bided his time and got the right job and I think he’ll be a great opponent."
A head coach a long time ago? That’s significant praise from Fisher, but he’s probably right. I’d say Pruitt could have coached somewhere in the Sun Belt or at a smaller university.
But, as Fisher said he held out and got the “right job.” And, at the current moment, most Tennessee fans agree. At least he is much better than Butch Jones.
Pruitt won’t have the opportunity to beat his old boss until the 2023 season. That is unless the two teams meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game before 2023. Don’t laugh it isn’t that crazy of an idea.

Jeremy Pruitt didn’t even have to say anything, and the Vols won day one of SEC media days. However, don’t expect any good praise tomorrow as Georiga and Florida take the podium.
