Matt Luke praises Phillip Fulmer as a mentor – Adam Sparks, The Tennessean

Ole Miss Rebels head coach Matt Luke praised Tennessee Vols athletic director Phillip Fulmer as a mentor given the situation he inherited last year. Like Fulmer in 1992, Luke had to serve as an interim head coach before taking the position full-time. He also worked on Fulmer’s Tennessee football staff in 2006 and 2007, as he was part of David Cutcliffe’s group of assistants.

"Luke went 6-6 as an interim coach last season after Hugh Freeze’s resignation and earned a promotion to permanent coach. Fulmer, likewise, went 3-0 as interim coach at Tennessee while Johnny Majors underwent heart surgery in 1992, and he ultimately took over as the permanent coach."
