Projected backups

1. Brandon Johnson; Junior; 6’2″ 193 lbs; Plantation, Fla.

Brandon Johnson actually led the team in receiving last year with 482 yards. However, he only had one touchdown. And much of his production came as Tennessee football was stumbling down the stretch of the season anyway. As a result, he’ll still be a valuable wideout for the Vols this year. But we project that he’ll be the first one off the bench. He won’t and shouldn’t start over Marquez Callaway or Jauan Jennings.

  • 2. Josh Palmer; Sophomore; 6’2″ 198 lbs; Brampton, Ontario (Canada)

Josh Palmer may have the brightest future of all Vols wideouts. But he needs to spend another year as a reserve to make an impact. Still learning the game of football, it’s a bit rough on him to have to change systems. So expect him to play sporadically but be the fourth wideout on the roster for 2018.

    3. Jordan Murphy; Sophomore; 5’11” 170 lbs; Hattiesburg, Miss.

Jordan Murphy has lots of talent as a slot receiver. Depending on what happens to Tennessee football with Tyler Byrd, Murphy could easily sneak into that role. The only reason we had Latrell Williams ahead of him is because Williams provides a unique change of pace. However, Murphy is a guy who could thrive in Tyson Helton’s system. And with more coaching and development, he should become elite.

    4. Jacquez Jones; r-Freshman; 5’11” 170 lbs; Clearwater, Fla.

Jacquez Jones is the fourth slot receiver we have on this list. He doesn’t have the same potential that Jordan Murphy has, but he still should be able to be serviceable. This year, his ability to provide depth at the position shouldn’t be taken lightly.
