Tennessee football: Vols dodged a bullet by not hiring Dan Mullen
The Tennessee football program may have dodged a bullet with Dan Mullen. His comments about his ‘weapon’ policy or lack thereof are baffling.
Tennessee football fans should be thanking their lucky stars that Dan Mullen isn’t the head football coach for the Tennessee Volunteers. Now, maybe his offense will be one of the best in the nation and his Gators will be tough to beat.
But, boy oh boy, he acts just like Butch Jones. And, around Rocky Top that is the worst quality ever. Mullen is no doubt the new Butch Jones of the SEC, and we are so thankful he’s at Florida and not Tennessee.
This stems from Florida’s wide receiver Kadarius Toney getting pulled over for a seatbelt violation on July 22. As the police were administering the route stop, they recovered a loaded AR-15 laying in the backseat of the vehicle.
Let me make it clear that under the gun laws in Florida, Toney wasn’t breaking any law. But, that isn’t the reason for the post.
Dan Mullen has a ‘no gun’ policy for his football program unless there are certain situations, as in if a player is hunting, storing it in the right place, or having gun knowledge. So, basically what Mullen is saying is he indeed does not have a weapon policy. Watch him backtrack doing his press conference from Thursday here.
As you can see Mullen is backtracking faster than Michael Jackson could moonwalk. There’s no policy when a player like Toney gets caught. Make it the 4th string linebacker, and the kid possibly gets kicked off the team.
It is hard to compare anyone, or anything said to Butch Jones. He is in a league of his own. However, the way Mullen handled that question has us thinking he is the new Butch Jones of the SEC. And, oh how we are happy he is at Florida.
