No. 1 – Jarrett Guarantano, Quarterback

Coming in at number one on our list for the most important sophomores is quarterback Jarrett Guarantano. Of course, the quarterback is the most important, right?

The quarterback is not as important in college football to the success of the team as it is in the NFL. However, the position still significant. And, if Guarantano can have a good season, the Vols will have a much better season than the 4-8 record from last year.

We mentioned Guarantano’s stats in the position rankings a few days ago, and most will not be impressed with the 4:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio. However, should fans not be happy with him protecting the football as well as he did?

Guarantano will learn to get rid of the ball quicker but he does need help from the offensive line. And, when he does throw perfect passes to the receivers, they have to step up and make the catch.

If Guarantano can continue to improve that only bolds well for the Vols have a good season. Guarantano is an enthusiastic leader with a lot of energy. If he can spread some of his energy throughout the team, this will be one football team that opposing teams will hate to play.
