No. 4 – Marquez Callaway, Wide Receiver

Marquez Callaway makes our list at the number four spot. Callaway was one of the players that stepped up even despite an embarrassing 4-8 season. And lucky for the Vols he did, or they would not have beat Georgia Tech in the first game of the season.

  • Against the Yellowjackets, Callaway had four receptions for 115 receiving yards and two touchdowns. At times during that game, Callaway looked unstoppable.

He was held out of the end zone most of the rest of the season and did not have another 100-yard receiving game. However, that was not because of a lack of talent. Honestly, nothing went right for the Vols last season.

Thinking about the upcoming season and knowing that Ty Chandler is in the backfield and Jauan Jennings on the other side of the field, Callaway could fly under the radar and have an All-SEC type of season. That is not even mentioning fellow receiver Brandon Johnson, who could have a huge impact on the offense.

Dare I say it, but if Callaway and Jennings can stay healthy maybe we can see a duo similar to Justin Hunter and Da’Rick Rogers? A tough connection I know, because the offensive styles are entirely different, however, Callaway and Jennings could do some damage next season under the leadership and play calling of Tyson Helton.
