player. 53. . Punter. Cleveland Browns. Britton Colquitt. 8

Britton Colquitt had the Michael Palardy issue in that he’s one of the leaders in overall yards per punt, but he’s outside of the Top 20 in terms of nailing punts within the 20-yard line. However, unlike Palardy, Colquitt was playing for the Cleveland Browns. As a result, he was never really in the right position to nail punts inside the 20.

What puts Colquitt on this list, continuing the Tennessee football tradition of Punter U, is the fact that he averaged an amazing 47.6 yards per punt last year. That was good for sixth in the league overall, which is pretty impressive.

The guy kept his net average at 40.6 yards overall as well. So, simply put, the Browns’ horrendous season does not fall on him whatsoever. He did his job from the beginning, and he even did it well enough to make it onto this list.

That’s really no surprise, though. Dating back to his days with the Denver Broncos, Colquitt has been one of the top former Vols in the NFL for a while and one of the most reliable punters in the league. So he was naturally going to be on this list.

This year, the Browns likely hope to have a much better season and get lucky enough to win a few games. With the team still developing, that means Colquitt will be a guy who has to help make a difference there. He’s proven to be capable of that in the past. There’s no reason to think he can’t do it again.
