Tennessee football: Top 10 former Vols in the NFL for 2018
Yes, the Colquitt brothers still play a huge role in keeping up with the Punter U tradition for Tennessee football. That’s not changing at all this year, and as always, we are keeping the older Colquitt brother in front.
Britton Colquitt may have always had the bigger leg. But dating even back to college, Dustin Colquitt has always been the one true model of consistency. That held true last year with his play for the Kansas City Chiefs in his 13th NFL season.
Colquitt was only No. 18 overall in the NFL in average yards per punt with 45.2. However, his net average was No. 14 with 41.1, and he was No. 10 in punts pinned inside the 20-yard line with 29. So he was actually able to flip the field more than his younger brother or Michael Palardy.
Among all the Colquitts who are legends among the Vols, Dustin is the closest to the architect of the punting family, Craig Colquitt, in terms of production. Despite getting up there in age, there’s no reason to think that can’t still be the case this year.
Until he shows otherwise, I’m going to have Dustin Colquitt as one of the most productive former Vols in the NFL, and for now, I’m going to have him above his brother. If it weren’t for the fact that the Chiefs could actually move the ball closer to midfield, Dustin Colquitt may actually be able to nail punts for an average over 47 yards as well. That’s enough to keep him on the list, and he’s the staple of the Punter U tradition on Rocky Top.
