Tennessee football: 10 Vols most likely to gain postseason recognition for 2018
Welcome back Jauan Jennings. After a season-ending injury last year and then a tumultuous offseason that saw him get dismissed by an interim coaching staff right before the Vols’ final game against the Vanderbilt Commodores only to be reinstated by Jeremy Pruitt and Phillip Fulmer, he’s likely ready to focus on his on-field talents again.
Of course, following all that drama, he still missed spring practice, and the coaches had to ease him into fall camp. So there’s a lot to worry about with him. It also brings into question whether or not he should be on this list.
That’s especially true when you look at the other three receivers. Brandon Johnson led the team last year in receiving yards, Marquez Callaway is the most proven playmaker with the ball in his hands, and reports suggest Josh Palmer is the best receiver in this year’s fall camp.
So why is Jennings so high? Well, he’s the only proven regular receiver for Tennessee football. The guy would have picked up 1,000 yards in 2016 had he not been the No. 2 wideout behind Josh Malone. Those same reports praising Palmer are also noting that Jennings hasn’t lost a step this fall camp.
As a result, you have to think that he’ll be able to step right back into his role. Also, Jennings is a gamer who steps up his play under the lights. So he’ll likely become the go-to receiver again, and in Tyson Helton’s offense, being that top guy is a huge bonus. It’ll get him tons of recognition, giving him a great chance to get something in the postseason.
