Tennessee football recruiting: 2019 Memphis OL Melvin McBride picks Vols
Tennessee football got another huge in-state pickup Wednesday. 2019 three-star offensive lineman Melvin McBride committed to the Volunteers.
Jeremy Pruitt went to the other side of the state to continue stacking up the 2019 recruiting class for Tennessee football Tuesday. Memphis offensive guard Melvin McBride committed to the Vols, adding more beef to the trenches.
A three-star on Rivals, McBride comes from Whitehaven High School. He is already listed at 6’4″ 310 pounds and is ranked a Top 20 player overall at his position and among all players within the state. McBride announced his commitment to Tennessee football on Twitter.
With McBride’s commitment, the Vols now have four offensive linemen for their 2019 class, including a five-star and two four-stars. They have 20 commitments overall, good for a Top 10 ranking overall on Rivals and the No. 5 ranking among SEC schools. McBride chose Rocky Top over the Arkansas Razorbacks, the Memphis Tigers, and the Louisville Cardinals.
Tennessee football also now has three in-state commitments for 2019, and all three are in the trenches. The other two are Nashville prospects: three-star defensive tackle Elijah Simmons and another offensive lineman, four-star Jackson Lampley. Still, it only has the second most players in the 2019 class so far.
Georgia so far is the state where most of the Vols’ commitments are from. They have eight commitments from there, including another offensive lineman, five-star Wanya Morris. McBride is the first commitment the Vols got from the Memphis area.
However, even with 20 commitments, you can bet Pruitt is not done, even on the offensive line. He’s still going hard after a few elite guys such as five-star Darnell Wright, the No. 1 lineman in the country, out of Huntington, W. Va.
So the Vols are rolling right now on the recruiting trail, and this is under a first-year head coach who’s never won a game and is taking over a school that finished last in the SEC last year amidst its worst season in history. If that doesn’t show how much potential this program has, I don’t know what will. McBride is just another part of it.
