Tennessee football: 5 SEC offensive stars the Vols have to account for in 2018
No.3 Deebo Samuel – South Carolina Gamecocks, Wide Receiver
Coming in at number three in our rankings is arguably one of the best wide receivers in the SEC, Deebo Samuel. An All-SEC first-time selection, Samuel should be ready to help the Gamecocks content for an Eastern Division Title.
Last season Samuel only played in the first three games, after going down with an injury. He accounted for five receptions in each game with three touchdowns. In the 23-13 loss to Kentucky, Samuel accounted for five receptions for 122 yards with one touchdown.
The South Carolina Gamecocks should be a much-improved team in year three of Will Muschamp. After a 6-7 first season, the Gamecocks went 9-4 last season and quite honestly could have won 11 games.
This will also be quarterback Jake Bentley’s third year as a starter and Samuel should be his favorite target.
The Vols have a weak secondary. In fact, it is probably the weakest position group on the 2018 team. The Vols are not going to stop Samuel. However, the young secondary will have a few games under their belts by the time the South Carolina game rolls around. Maybe they will be good enough to contain him.
