Game 3: UTEP Miners at Tennessee Volunteers

Saturday, Sept. 15; Neyland Stadium; Knoxville, Tenn.

Caleb Calhoun

The craziest part about Tennessee football’s non-conference schedule outside of the West Virginia Mountaineers is how bad the other two FBS teams were last year. The UTEP Miners are coming off an 0-12 season, and they’ve turned to longtime Kansas State Wildcats offensive coordinator Dana Dimel to turn things around as head coach.

So like the Vols, this team is entering a new era. However, it’s not going to matter at all. Tennessee wins this one in a second straight blowout to move to 2-1.

Winner: Tennessee (2-1, 0-0)

Billy Williford

Another game that should be an easy win for the Vols. The Miners are coming off a 0-12 season and now trying to steal the “Tennessee” orange color. Not going to happen. Tennessee football starts the season 2-1.

Winner: Tennessee (2-1, 0-0)

Garrett Sanders

This game once again will be all about learning the schemes of the Pro Offense and 3-4 Defense. Tennessee football should have no issue with moving the ball down the field and getting three and outs on defense.

By this time, we should also either see Keller Chryst or Jarrett Guarantano pull away as the full-time starting quarterback. Whoever wins out will most likely be under center for the remainder of the season. Talent wise, the Vols have this game out of reach. But the next few weeks will define this football team’s mental and physical toughness.

Winner: Tennessee (2-1, 0-0)
