Game 6: Tennessee Volunteers at Auburn Tigers

Saturday, Oct. 13; Jordan-Hare Stadium; Auburn, Ala.

Caleb Calhoun

This is a brutal game for Tennessee football. Coming off a close road loss to the Georgia Bulldogs, they may have some confidence going to face the Auburn Tigers. It’ll all come crashing down. I’m not sure how good Auburn is, but I know Gus Malzahn has a great team overall.

On top of that, the Tigers have the personnel in place used to running his complex spread. And this version of the spread, that teams actually know how to execute, is brutal for defenses adjusting to the 3-4. So expect a bloodbath. Auburn blows the Vols out.

Winner: Auburn (3-3, 1-2)

Billy Williford

Not quite sure how to feel about this game. This is the second of back-to-back road games. It is tough anytime a team has back-to-back road games in the SEC.

Again, I think the Vols keep it close, but Jarrett Stidham is poised for a strong season and should pick apart the Vols secondary.

Winner: Auburn (3-3, 1-2)

Tennessee-Auburn was once a historic rivalry, but the Vols have had lousy success against this program in years past, losing all six meetings since their last win in 1999. Auburn is very talented, especially on their home turf.  They have an elite defensive line going up against a below average Tennessee football offensive line, so the Vols will have a tough time moving the ball.

Also, Auburn has a great group of receivers that can attack a weak Vols secondary. If Jarrett Stidham has time to throw, this could get ugly. Auburn’s offensive line isn’t great either, and I think Tennessee could see a sack or two, but it won’t be enough. Jeremy Pruitt needs his team to execute a perfect game plan to be competitive here. Right now, though, it’s not in his favor.

Winner: Auburn (2-4, 0-3)
