Game 8: Tennessee Volunteers at South Carolina Gamecocks

Saturday, Oct. 27; Williams-Brice Stadium; Columbia, S.C.

Caleb Calhoun

The confidence boost of the Alabama game is going to carry over into the South Carolina game, similar to what happened back in 2014. I know the Gamecocks are the better team, but first-year coaches often times get a signature victory.

As crazy as it sounds, this will be that signature victory. Tennessee football should have beaten South Carolina each of the past two years, but they had the worst game plan ever in 2016 and then threw Jarrett Guarantano to the wolves in 2017. In 2018, they get newfound momentum by shocking the Gamecocks in Columbia.

Winner: Tennessee (4-4, 2-3)

Billy Williford

Are the Vols going to be beatdown after that tough three-game span or they going to be ready for a win?

I think they will come out and play hard. However, Jake Bentley and Deebo Samuel sound too tough to contain.

Winner: South Carolina (3-5, 1-4)

Garrett Sanders

Will Muschamp for some reason owns Tennessee football with a a 6-0 record against them. Will the Vols ever get a win? Sure, other coaches have owned them, but not one of Muschamp’s caliber. Can Jeremy Pruitt finally do what Derek Dooley and Butch Jones couldn’t? Talent wise, no. Coaching wise, possibly. Just not this season.

I’m not on board the South Carolina express, and I still consider Muschamp a mediocre head coach until he proves me wrong. This game will be close, and Pruitt may have something up his sleeve. But with the Gamecocks are very talented, and with Pruitt being an unproven head coach, I can’t see the Vols winning.

Winner: South Carolina (2-6, 0-5)
