The Arkansas Razorbacks could have been below the Tennessee Vols in our SEC Power Rankings. They also went 4-8 on the season last year and underwent a coaching change that involves switching up the offense on both sides of the ball.

If we’re going straight off projections here and ranking the SEC from No. 1 to No. 14, most people would pick UT to finish ahead of the Hogs for 2018. But, as we mentioned, that’s not what this is about. We are only focusing on what has happened so far.

And Arkansas has no offseason drama or coaching changes that Tennessee didn’t suffer. On top of that, the Razorbacks did actually win a conference game last year. Sure, they had the same record, but that’s because these guys lost a non-conference game to the TCU Horned Frogs.

Tennessee’s toughest non-conference game was against the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, who were significantly worse last year. As a result, yes, Arkansas finished in better position. With new head coach Chad Morris, they expect to begin an era of exciting offenses once again. And they have former Vols defensive coordinator John Chavis running their defense.

Arkansas opens the season up against Eastern Illinois, so they aren’t going to make any splash to move up these rankings early on. But a decent test at the Colorado State Rams the next week could cause some movement. If they can win that, they should be 3-0 before their SEC opener against the Auburn Tigers on Sept. 22.
