Charleston Southern Buccaneers at Florida Gators

Saturday, Sept. 1 at 7:30 p.m.; Ben Hill Griffin Stadium; Gainesville, Fla.

We’re onto our fourth straight game in which an SEC team unveiling a new offense opens up against an FCS school. Add in Jimbo Fisher, and that’s five SEC teams doing that, four of whom have a new head coach. Tennessee football was a rarity this year going with a defensive guy to lead the program. Anyway, the Florida Gators are now led by the guy Joe Moorhead replaced with the Mississippi State Bulldogs, Dan Mullen.

Mullen inherits a roster with a ton of returning starters, and he’ll likely restore the exciting offenses UF once enjoyed with Urban Meyer there. But will it be enough this year? After all, the spread takes some time to pick up. And Feleipe Franks isn’t the best guy to run it. That won’t matter this game. Florida wins easily against Charleston Southern and lulls everybody to sleep.

Speaking of Butch Jones. I mean Dan Mullen, they sound so much alike during press conferences it is hard to tell them apart. The Gators open their season against the Charleston Southern Buccaneers. And, as much as I would love to predict they will lose, it just will not happen.

Who knows what we are going to get from Florida’s offense. Feleipe Franks is starting at quarterback, and if that is their best option, the Gators could be in for another long season. But, they win game one handily.

The Dan Mullen era has arrived in Gainesville, Florida. The Gators also have finally named a starting quarterback. Felipe Franks. But the stars of the night at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will be the Gators Defense. Here’s why.

The Buccaneers have failed to score a single point in two of their five losses the year before. In three games of their total of 250 points scored, they scored 176 of them. The Buccaneers goal for this game should be to put up at least a field goal. But more than likely, it won’t happen. One of the team, the Buccaneers, faced last season was Mississippi State. A team that Dan Mullen coached. The same result of what happened last season will happen again (most likely).
