No. 20 Virginia Tech Hokies at No. 19 Florida State Seminoles

Monday, Sept. 3 at 8 p.m.; Doak Campbell Stadium; Tallahassee, Fla.

TV: ESPN; Line: Florida State -7.5; Over/Under: 56.5

Caleb Calhoun

The Florida State Seminoles went 7-6 last year and are transitioning to a spread offense this year under new head coach Willie Taggart. Meanwhile, the Virginia Tech Hokies are off and running as a program under Justin Fuente, who is one of the best coaches in college football. This is not the same team that Tennessee football blew out in the Battle of Bristol.

As a result of this, how in the world could anybody give FSU a touchdown plus half a point in this spread? Maybe I’m overreacting, but this is ridiculous. Not only will VT cover as FSU still learns the spread early on. They’ll win. In fact, they are going to win convincingly at Doak Campbell Stadium. This is the year Virginia Tech returns to a powerhouse program, and it starts with this Monday night game.

Virginia Tech: 31 Florida State: 21 (Virginia Tech +7.5; Under)

Billy Williford

This is flying under the radar and could end up being a very intriguing game. Virginia Tech is coming off a 9-4 season with losses to Clemson, Miami, Georiga Tech, and Oklahoma State.

Florida State, on the other hand, is under the leadership of new head coach Willie Taggart. I think it is safe to say Florida State is going to take a dip in production. I think the Hokies cover the awfully high 7.5 point spread and the over hits. Throw some money at it and get rich.

Virginia Tech: 31 Florida State: 28 (Virginia Tech +7.5; Over)

Garrett Sanders

Willie Taggert makes his debut at home at Doak Campbell Stadium in Tallahassee. He will face a very underrated team in Virginia Tech. This game will come down to who has the better Offense. Both Defenses are loaded with talent. For Florida State, they must figure a way to get their running game going. Otherwise, this could be a very long night for them. For Virginia Tech, their passing Offense needs to be effective. But against this Florida State secondary will be tough.

I expect the Willie Taggert era to start out on a good note here. Florida State will have the better Offense in this game. The Seminoles should also have enough Defense to stop the Hokies from scoring more than them. Overall, this game will be a fun, entertaining one to watch.
