Northwestern State Demons at Texas A&M Aggies

Thursday, Aug. 30 at 8:30 p.m.; Kyle Field; College Station, Texas

It’s a Thursday night game that involves an unranked SEC school against an FCS school. But hey, it’s the start of SEC football, so everybody has to be excited, right? On top of that, it’s the start of a new era as Jimbo Fisher takes control of the Texas A&M Aggies, replacing Kevin Sumlin. And hey, these games can get exciting. Remember Tennessee football’s Thursday night opener against the Appalachian State Mountaineers two years ago?

Okay, that’s not going to happen here. The Aggies are going to control this game from start to finish, and Kellen Mond and Trayveon Williams will give a great first glimpse into their epic skills in the backfield together. Just enjoy football watching this one. Don’t read too much into it.

Jimbo Fisher is about to embark on something much different than anything he has encountered. He is about to be the head coach of an SEC team and as we all know it just means more in the SEC. Yes, he was the head coach at Florida State. And, yes he had outstanding teams with the Seminoles, but it is the SEC now. Football is different in the SEC.

Under Fisher, hope has sparked up in Aggie nation as he begins he tenure with a tough test. Okay not really. The Demons of Northwestern State will be no match for Sophomore Kellen Mond. The Aggies also have junior running back Trayveon Williams only needs 145 rushing yards to reach the 2,000-yard milestone club. Bonus prediction, Williams gets over 145 rushing yards.

Jimbo Fisher makes his first debut at Kyle Field College Station, Texas. This will be fun to watch to see what kind of team Fisher will put out on the field. The main storyline in College Station though is the quarterback battle going on. Kellen Mond or Nick Starkel. Mond looks like he will get the starting nod by Fisher.

We should see the Aggies put away the Demons early on, giving younger players some playing time. I expect the Demons no-huddle offense to be stopped on numerous 3 and out’s. But I also hope Texas A&M’s offensive line to be challenged by the Demons defensive line. Overall, the Aggies are just more talented, and it will show throughout the night.
