Austin Peay Governors at No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs

Saturday, Sept. 1 at 3:30 p.m.; Sanford Stadium; Athens, Ga.

The Georgia Bulldogs have a really tough test right out of the gate after their heartbreaking national title loss…Okay! I couldn’t say that with a straight face. Austin Peay? Really? Well, don’t sleep on these guys. They did go 8-4 last year at the FCS level. And the Dawgs have to replace a ton of talent on defense.

I’m going to sleep on them. The Governors aren’t going to do anything against Georgia, and this will be a blowout from the start. Despite questions on defense, the offense should be even better. Georgia wins and scores a ton of points. But they’ll give up a couple of late scores as well.

If I had to nitpick one thing I dislike about college football it would be games like this. First off no one cares about Georgia, and by them playing a team like Austin Peay makes it even worse. Not too much to say about this game. Georgia starts the season off as the third-ranked team in the nation and is the clear favorite to represent the East in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game.

This game gets ugly and stays ugly. Even the young guys will get to play and score some garbage time touchdowns. However, if you watch the game keep an eye out for Knoxville product and Fulton High standout Kentel Williams. The running back is entering his junior year with the Governors, and he has already racked up 1,215 rushing yards with eight touchdowns.

Austin Peay is a decent football team, (for the FCS that is). The Governors have a very well-established running game behind their O-line. While Georgia also has a talented D-line, it could be a more robust battle upfront. I say this because the Bulldogs did heavily depend on their linebackers to get behind the backfield last season.

Georgia will be angry coming into this game after being two downs away from winning a national championship. Yes, I get it. Georgia has a lot of leaders going into this season. Last season is in the past. This is the present. Georgia will throw the kitchen sink at Austin Peay and prove that they haven’t lost a beat from last season.
