Tennessee football hosting the ETSU Buccaneers leads our Volunteers, SEC and Top 25 predictions for the second week of the 2018 season.

It was a predictably exciting first weekend of games for college football. Tennessee football disappointed Rocky Top by getting blown out by the West Virginia Mountaineers, but the rest of the SEC showed out.

This week, things obviously get a little bit easier for the Vols as they get to host the East Tennessee State Buccaneers, an FCS school that just restarted football back in 2015. Perhaps they can join the rest of the SEC by getting a win.

Meanwhile, conference play is beginning this week for a few SEC teams. There are still some really bad games, as Week 2 is a major drop-off from Week 1, but fans still have a lot to look forward to on Saturday. Before we begin our predictions for the week, here’s a recap of how we did last week.

Week 1 recap: Straight-up (gambling picks are tiebreakers)

Garrett Sanders: 23-13 (12-4 straight-up, 7-3 ATS, 4-6 O/U)

Billy Williford: 23-13(14-2 straight-up, 5-5 ATS, 4-6 O/U )

Caleb Calhoun 19-17 (12-4 straight-up, 2-8 ATS, 5-5 O/U)

Record on unanimous gambling picks: 1-3

Yes, Garrett and Billy were tied for the best, but Garrett won on gambling picks. He dominated against the spread. Meanwhile, I’ve got some work to do, as I got killed on the spread despite going 50 percent on the over under.

We were all awful on our unanimous picks. The only one we nailed was the Virginia Tech-Florida State game, in which is was blatantly obvious to take VT on the spread. We all took Miami and the under with LSU-Miami, only to lose out on both. And we all took the over with Tennessee football against West Virginia, losing on that one as well.

This week, the most excitement in the league is in the SEC. You’ve got two more games featuring an SEC team and a team from another Power Five conference, including one against the No. 2 team in the nation. Two conference games are also taking place this week. Both are SEC East games, and one features two Top 25 teams.

There’s only one non-SEC game featuring two Top 25 teams, and four SEC teams play FCS schools this week. That makes for 13 games overall. Could we get luckier this week with such an unlucky number? Well, let’s find out.

As we said last week, we’re going to track how each of us did on gambling picks specifically and straight up, and then we’ll see how we did on our unanimous picks as well. So with the hopes of a better week, here are our Tennessee football, SEC and Top 25 predictions for Week 2 of 2018.
