Nevada Wolf Pack at Vanderbilt Commodores

Saturday, Sept. 8 at Noon; Vanderbilt Stadium; Nashville, Tenn.

TV: SEC Network; Line: Vanderbilt -8.5; Over/Under: 63

Garrett Sanders

The Wolf Pack have a fantastic Air Raid style of Offense. They can throw the ball against any secondary at will. However, let’s not forget that to throw the ball, you must protect the passer. This is where the Commodores have the strength to take control of this Nevada Offense. Just ask Middle Tennessee State.

On top of the Defense for Vanderbilt, their offense has a nice, balanced attack. They can pound the rock and throw the ball all over you. Nevada’s Defense isn’t the greatest. Vanderbilt should be able to exploit the Wolf Pack and take control of this game.

Nevada vs. Vanderbilt, what a fascinating game this is going to be to watch. Okay, let’s be honest, we aren’t going to watch this game, are we? The Commodores handled business against MTSU last week, but the same could be said for Nevada as they dropped 72 on Portland State.

The Wolfpack is 6-2 ATS in their last eight games. While Vanderbilt is only 2-4 ATS at home in their previous six games. I’m still going Vandy to win but take the points.

Vanderbilt: 33 Nevada: 27 (Nevada +8.5; Under)

Nevada’s offense is humming under Matt Mumme, part of the Mumme family tree that invented the air raid, and Jay Norvell, the head coach who comes from a major offensive background. It was only against Portland State, but these guys did put up 72 points. So yes, Vanderbilt could have a rough day, just as Tennessee football did against the air raid last week.

However, the Commodores have their own offense humming right now under Derek Mason. And Nevada’s defense is too weak. It’s all about efficiency with Kyle Shurmur while the defense creates opportunities. That will be the case in this game as Vandy and Nevada get locked in a shootout. Take the Commodores to cover, and again, take the points.
