Southern Illinois Salukis at Ole Miss Rebels

Saturday, Sept. 8 at 4 p.m.; Vaught-Hemingway Stadium; Oxford, Miss.

TV: SEC Network

The Salukis have a strong running game. Like last week though, I said the same thing about the Texas Red Raiders. I predicted that they would play ball control and win against this red-hot Offense of Ole Miss. The result? It was a huge mistake. One that I won’t make again.

Ole Miss proved that despite only having the ball for 24 minutes, they were still explosive enough to pull away. I expect something very similar to happen this week against Southern Illinois. Ole Miss will give up points, but they will score much more than the Salukis.

Ole Miss looked good, didn’t they? Yes, I know they were playing Texas Tech, and there’s no defense played in the Big 12. However, the Rebels got whatever they wanted on offense. Senior quarterback Jordan Ta’amu looked terrific. Honestly, it looked like he should be up for Heisman consideration. He threw for 336 passing yards with two touchdowns against the Red Raiders defense.

This game doesn’t have a spread, but I would be willing to put money on old miss covering despite what the number is. I think the Rebels drop 50 on Southern Illinois.

The Ole Miss Rebels shocked the world last week by dominating the Texas Tech Red Raiders. This is a great program that Matt Luke has saved. We should have expected nothing less from a guy that David Cutcliffe swears by. Jordan Ta’amu is the real deal, and Oxford has to be rolling with excitement after that win.

This week, they get a breather. Does anybody really expect Ole Miss to struggle at all? Expect an offensive performance similar to a basketball game as the Rebs light it up in their home opener. Ole Miss dominates easily.
