SEC Standings: Vols ahead of Florida and South Carolina after week 2
Vols get their first win on the season this past Saturday against ETSU. Here is an updated look at the Top 25 and SEC standings.
The Tennessee football team is riding high after their first win of the season. Oh, and the Florida Gators lost this past Saturday to Kentucky. That’s something that will always put a smile on the faces of Vol nation.
But, let’s not overreact here, the Vols beat a bad East Tennessee State team. Honestly, any play could have worked against the Buccaneers defense.
Nonetheless, in the updated SEC standings the Vols aren’t in last place. Yes, I know they haven’t played a conference game yet, but the Vols will take any leg up on Florida they can get. Here is a look at the updated SEC standings after week two.
East
No. 3 Georgia Bulldogs (2-0, 1-0 SEC)
Kentucky Wildcats (2-0, 1-0 SEC)
Vanderbilt Commodores (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
Missouri Tigers (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
Tennessee Volunteers (1-1, 0-0 SEC)
Florida Gators (1-1, 0-1 SEC)
South Carolina Gamecocks (1-1, 0-1 SEC)
West
No.1 Alabama Crimson Tide (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
No. 7 Auburn Tigers (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
No. 12 LSU Tigers (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
No. 16 Mississippi State Bulldogs (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
Ole Miss Rebels (2-0, 0-0 SEC)
Texas A&M Aggies (1-1, 0-0 SEC)
Arkansas Razorbacks (1-1, 0-0 SEC)
Nothing jumps off the page when taking a look at the standings. However, Kentucky put themselves in position to contend for an Eastern division title.
But, if we are all honest with ourselves, the Wildcats aren’t winning the SEC East. It’s Georgia’s division, and everyone else is fighting for second. And, as always the best division in all college football is the SEC West. Four of the seven teams are ranked inside the Top 20 of the AP Poll.
The SEC is dominating the AP Top 25. There are four teams ranked inside the top 15, three of which are also ranked in the top ten. Of course, the Vols play all three of those opponents.
Tennessee will have their first opportunity of conference action on September 22 against the Gators. Can you imagine the backlash in Gainesville if the Vols beat Florida and give them a 0-2 start in the SEC?
