Week one of the NFL is in the books. Last season’s Rookie of the Year, Alvin Kamara had a huge game. Here is how former Vols fared on opening weekend.

Despite the loser Butch Jones was as the head coach of the Tennessee football program; he did coach a couple of players shining in the NFL. Of course, that makes sense because Jones had no clue how to get the football to real talent.

Last season’s NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Alvin Kamara was the highlight of week one for all former Vols. With fellow running back Mark Ingram sidelined for the Saints, Kamara was the go-to back and put up some impressive numbers.

He only had 29 rushing yards on eight carries, but two of those carries were for touchdowns. Kamara also added nine receptions for 112 yards with another touchdown. And, if you’re a fantasy football player, particularly a DraftKings fantasy player, you’re happy with his 46 point outburst from Kamara. That’s if you played him in your lineup.

Another VFL that had a nice performance was defensive back, Cameron Sutton. The Pittsburgh Steelers were holding onto a small lead when Browns quarterback Tyrod Taylor connected with wide receiver Josh Gordon for a game-tying score. Who did they pick on? Cameron Sutton.

But, the disappointment didn’t last long. The next Browns’ possession they tried to pick on Sutton again, and he came up with a huge interception. Without that interception, the Browns win the game.

Staying with the Steelers and Browns game, wide receiver Justin Hunter was fingertips away from having a career day. Hunter only had one catch for six yards but was targeted five times. Ben Roethlisberger wasn’t on his game or Hunter could have scored two touchdowns.

Of course, not all former Vols had great weeks. Yes, I know Nathan Peterman played at Pittsburgh as well, but his time on Rocky Top still counts, right? That’s if Vol fans want to claim his awful performance from week one. Peterman when 5-for-18 for 24 yards with zero touchdowns and two interceptions.

As always we will keep you updated on how former Vols do each week in the NFL. Alvin Kamara clearly earns our MVP honors for week one. If he continues that type of performance, he should earn MVP honors for the 2018-19 NFL season.
