AP Poll, SEC Update: Vols still play three teams in the top 10
The 2018 college football season is three weeks old. The new AP Poll is still showing love for three Vols’ opponents.
The new AP Poll was released early on Sunday and not too much has changed. The SEC as a conference dominates. And, the Tennessee football team still has a tough road ahead.
The Vols still have dates with three top ten teams in a couple of weeks. By now we all know about the three-game span that is the arguably the toughest stretch of games in the nation. The Vols will play Georiga (2), Auburn (9), and Alabama (1) in that span of games.
Here is a look at SEC teams in the top 25:
1- Alabama Crimson Tide (3-0)
2- Georgia Bulldogs (3-0)
6- LSU Tigers (3-0)
9- Auburn Tigers (2-1)
14- Mississippi State Bulldogs (3-0)
22- Texas A&M Aggies (2-1)
Others receiving votes: Kentucky (38), Missouri (8), and South Carolina (4).
There are some huge conference games in from the SEC East. In the first game of the day, Georiga travels to Missouri as they try to advance to 2-0 in the SEC. However, Drew Lock and the Tigers will have have something to say with their high powered offense.
South Carolina and Vanderbilt play at 4:00 pm. If the Commodores get the best of the Gamecocks, South Carolina will fall to 0-2 in the SEC. It shouldn’t surprise anyone, Vanderbilt went to South Bend and play Notre Dame to the wire.
Finally, the game Volnation is most excited about is Florida at Tennessee. The Vols have started 2-1 under first-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt. However, we still don’t know what to expect from this Tennessee team. They are young but very talented and could upset a team or two they aren’t supposed to beat.
It’s hard to put the “must-win” title on any game this season, but if the Vols want to go bowling, they need to beat the Gators.
I think it is safe to say Tennessee doesn’t have much of a chance against Georiga, Auburn, and Alabama. So, if they can take a 3-1 record into that three-game span, it could help considerably in getting to six wins.
With a win against the Gators, the Vols could end week four second in the SEC East. It should be a good game on Saturday night even if both teams are struggling.
