Tennessee football’s victory over the University of Texas El Paso left many questions. Here are the Volunteers grades in their 24-0 win against the Miners.

It certainly wasn’t pretty. Lots of mistakes on offense and only 24 points overall left a lot to be desired in the second Tennessee football win of the Jeremy Pruitt era, especially when you consider that they were playing a team on a 14-game losing streak, now 15 games.

The Vols faced arguably the worst team in FBS play in the UTEP Miners on Saturday, and while they were never seriously threatened, they certainly didn’t look pretty at times. Jeremy Pruitt said as much in his postgame press conference, noting that his team didn’t practice well all week.

Well, we saw the results of that. Tennessee football dominated the stats sheet, but a series of mental errors made the game a lot uglier than it should have been. With the Florida Gators coming up next, that leaves a lot for the Vols to correct.

Because of the quality of opponent, it’s hard to gauge just how well different units played this week. After all, UTEP is pretty much bad across the board except with a threatening rush offense. And playing that game after playing the ETSU Bucs, there’s not a lot to gather from these guys just yet.

However, it was clear that some units rose up to the occasion more than others. So as we give out our report cards, we can clearly determine who performed and who didn’t. Some of the best performers made the most crucial mistakes, though, which makes this a bit tricky. Others were just downright bad, and a few were decent the whole way.

So with lots of concerns heading into SEC play and with a ton of work to do, let’s look at which Vols’ units came in the strongest this past Saturday. This is the Tennessee football report card following their 24-0 win over the UTEP Miners.
