The Tennessee football team is heading into their first SEC matchup against the Florida Gators. Here are four improvements they need to make before conference play begins.

It’s not like the season is doomed and the 2018 Tennessee football team isn’t going to win another game. But, the SEC is the best conference in the nation. If the Vols want to compete, they have to improve in some areas.

Let’s be honest for a moment. No matter how much the Vols improve this season they don’t have a chance of beating Georiga, Alabama, and probably Auburn. Alabama might be the best college team I’ve ever seen.

It’s not often that Nick Saban has an offense better than his defense, but that is what he’s got this season. Honestly, Alabama could have beaten Lousiville, Arkansas State, and Ole Miss 100-0 if they wanted to. What’s crazy is they still have to play Arkansas, who I’m convinced is the worst team in Division I. I would bet on ETSU to beat them.

If you chalk the Georiga, Alabama, and Auburn down as losses, that would give the Vols four losses on the season. It’s a long shot, but there is still a mathematical chance Tennessee gets to eight wins. Could you imagine if that happened?

If we are real with ourselves, an eight-win season isn’t likely. However, some improvements can give the Vols a real chance to at least be competitive in every SEC game this season.

In this post, we are going to give four improvements that the Vols need to make to avoid another disastrous 4-8 season. Or even worse, 3-9 for the first time in program history. First on our list, a faster pass rush.
