No. 3 – Unforced errors

Yes, this is generic, and every team should try to eliminate unforced errors, but if the Vols want to win in the SEC, they have to be perfect. I’ll be honest; if I was an oddsmaker, I’m not sure I would have Tennessee football favored in any SEC games this season.

  • That is strictly off how well each team has looked this season. Vanderbilt about went into South Bend and beat a top ten Notre Dame team. Actually, they should have beat Notre Dame. But, what about Kentucky?

I’m not even sure the Vols would be favored to beat the Wildcats. Kentucky did beat Florida, and the Gators opened up as favorites against Tennessee. So, to win those games, the Vols have to eliminate unforced errors.

Take this past game against UTEP for example. Jeremy Pruitt ended up calling a timeout when Tennessee was on defense and to beat it all; it was on third down. Why? Because there were too many men on the field.

Sure, it didn’t matter in a 24-0 game, but what if that happened earlier in the third quarter against Florida in a three-point game? Those simple mistakes go a long way.

Perfect football seems out of reach for any team, but if the Vols want to win, they need to be as perfect as they can get.
