Say what you want, but Brent Cimaglia has not yet missed an extra point or a field goal this season. Okay, so he’s only tried four field goals through four games, but the sophomore already is looking better than Aaron Medley did in four years.

Cimaglia hit two field goals with a decent enough degree of difficulty on Saturday. One was beyond 30 yards, and another was beyond 40 yards. The 32-yarder required enough of a clutch gene to earn credit, as they came at a time when the Vols were desperate for points but still in the game down 14-0.

The 41-yarder, meanwhile, came with the Vols down 33-3, so there wasn’t much to celebrate at that point. However, given the fact that we just brought up Medley, it’s worth celebrating making any field goal beyond 40 yards given the inconsistencies of the last four years.

Cimaglia continues to be a bright spot for Tennessee football, and going forward, the Vols may end up having an advantage with him at kicker. He’s proven he has the leg, as last year he nailed a 50-yarder against the Gators. And now, the consistency seems to be arriving as well. So he definitely earned a helmet sticker for the Vols.
