As if losing 62-7 to the Alabama Crimson Tide wasn’t ugly enough for the Ole Miss Rebels, they had to fight to put away the Kent State Golden Flashes the very next week. If we were solely basing things on the last two weeks, there’d be an argument to have this team actually below the Vols in our SEC Power Rankings.

However, Matt Luke’s crew does have a Power Five win, which does count for something. And the ugliness of the last two weeks hasn’t been enough to drop them that far down yet. But they are just one step away from that bottom tier.

The Rebels are about to have another brutal match-up this week with the LSU Tigers on the road, but then they get to hose the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks and visit the Arkansas Razorbacks. Both games should be wins to get this team to 5-2 at the very worst.

However, they have to play at a high level all year because seven wins will be tough to come by. On top of the next three weeks, these guys still have to face the Auburn Tigers, Texas A&M Aggies, South Carolina Gamecocks, and Mississippi State Bulldogs. They could all be losses, as could a road game against the next team in these rankings.
