Southern Miss Golden Eagles at No. 10 Auburn Tigers

Saturday, Sept. 29 at 4 p.m. E.T.; Jordan-Hare Stadium; Auburn, Ala.

TV: SEC Network; Line: Auburn -26.5; Over/Under: 53

The Auburn Tigers could sleep their way through this victory, the same way they did last week against the Arkansas Razorbacks. After a home loss to the LSU Tigers, they have a stretch as boring as Tennessee football’s was for two weeks after the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Anyway, Gus Malzahn’s offense is still looking inconsistent, but the defense is playing very well. At the same time, the offense looks good enough to help this team cover on Saturday, so I’ve got the Tigers winning, but take the under.

Auburn needs to dominate this game from start to finish. They have not done that yet this season. This has the Auburn faithful concerned about their future moving forward with Gus Malzahn. If they have any chance to do that, it’s this weekend.

The defense has been solid. However, the offense has not been consistent enough. Auburn needs to get their run game going. While Southern Miss is not an elite team, I expect Auburn’s offense to figure it out finally. They should get a lot of runs in this game and play ball control. Their defense will take care of the rest. This will give Auburn fans something to be encouraged about moving forward.

Auburn has one loss, and everyone is acting like their season is over. They still have a chance at making to the SEC Championship Game; they just can’t lose. Southern Miss is always one of those scary teams that you hate playing.

The Tigers are coming off a 34-3 win over the Arkansas Razorbacks and appear to hit an easy road in the schedule. They play Georgia on November 11 and Alabama on November 24. I like the Tigers big in this one.
