Jeremy Pruitt has limited some Tennessee football players more than expected. Here are five Volunteers who should see more playing time after the open date.

With a 2-3 record and three losses by 26 points each, it’s pretty obvious Tennessee football has plenty of issues. That’s especially true when you consider that those are their only three games against Power Five opponents, or just FBS opponents that have a win on the season.

But while we’ve documented the issues and even noted the positives, while we’ve praised some individuals and dished out blame to others, the truth is the Vols are just not yet a finished product heading into their bye week. We still don’t know fully what to make of this team because, as it develops, there are different strengths and weaknesses that show each week.

The lack of consistency makes it really hard to read into Jeremy Pruitt’s first season as Tennessee football head coach. But with all the offseason injuries and the new systems on both sides of the ball, it’s also something you could have expected.

What could make things easier, though, is if other guys see more action coming out of the bye. As we noted, numerous injuries limited reps of some guys and kept them out through the first five games. Other players have inexplicably not played as much as we thought they would.

Maybe the coaches haven’t been able to use them because they couldn’t establish their game plans. But it’s also possible that these guys just aren’t ready to go in. And, in a worst case scenario, what if the coaches lied to us about some players?

Regardless of the reason, UT has guys that need to see the field more. We’re going to take a look at that in this post. Some players, like JJ Peterson, clearly won’t make sense to be on here, even if they haven’t played. After all, Peterson didn’t arrive until Fall Camp ended and likely still won’t pick up on enough to go after the bye week.

But there are plenty of guys who should have already been set to go. And we haven’t seen much from them yet. So who are we referring to? These are the five Tennessee football players who should see more action coming off of the bye week.
