Tennessee Vols football head coach Jeremy Pruitt speaking to the media after practice Wednesday leads our Volunteers news for Thursday, Oct. 4, 2018.

We get deeper into October by the day, and the heart of fall sports are taking over the Tennessee Vols athletic department. However, with football on a bye, this is a bit of an off-week for the university during this time.

The team is still practicing, though, and our news on Rocky Top today focuses on updates surrounding it after practice from Wednesday. Even with a 2-3 record under a first-year head coach, football is clearly the engine driving the athletic train, as Phillip Fulmer described it when he introduced Jeremy Pruitt last year.

But there are some other sports updates to bring you. We have a recap of a Lady Vols match in one sport and a preview of them in another sport. Also, a recognition for Lady Vols from last year is a news story. So yes, outside of one football story, today’s news focuses heavily on the women’s athletic programs. But let’s start with the Tennessee Vols post-football practice news.
