After the bye week, the Tennessee football team opens up as 18.5-point underdogs to the Auburn Tigers. Could this be another week for easy money?

The 2018 Tennessee football team once again finds themselves as double-digit underdogs on the road. Before the bye week, Tennessee were 31.5-point underdogs to the Georgia Bulldogs. Fast forward two weeks and the Vols are 18.5-point dogs to the Auburn Tigers.

Tennessee is 2-3 on the season. All three losses have been by 26 points. I’m not one to hunt excuses, but I believe there are reasonable explanations as to why the Vols lost those games by so many points.

West Virginia was the first game of the season. If it wasn’t enough the Vols had to go up against their high-powered offense, there was a lightning delay too which affected all the young guys and first-year head coach Jeremy Pruitt. It is a simple lesson that Pruitt and staff will learn.

Florida and Georgia might be better than Tennessee. Okay, they are better but turnovers didn’t help the Vols keeps those games close. Without the turnovers, without the six turnovers against the Gators, you never know the Vols could have won.

Tennessee covering the spread is more about how bad Auburn is playing at the moment. I do think we will continue to see an improved Tennessee team each game. And, the Vols are coming off a bye week.

Auburn as 18.5-point favorites is laughable. Guess how many touchdowns Auburn has scored in the past five quarters. If you guess zero, you’re right.

And, one of those games was against Southern Mississippi. In fact, the offense has been so bad they haven’t scored double digits in a quarter in over two games.

Furthermore, Auburn has only beaten two teams this season by 18 points or more, and that was Alabama State and Arkansas. Tennessee is better than both of those teams.

I’m not suggesting the Vols give Auburn their second straight conference loss. However, much like how Tennessee hung with Georgia, I think they do the same against Auburn. For the second straight game, the Vols cover the spread. Take the 18.5 for easy money.
