Week five of the NFL season is in the books. A couple of Vols had good days, but Cordarrelle Patterson stole the show with another touchdown.

There were a few bright spots in Week five of the NFL season. If you want something to brag about as a Tennessee football fan, the NFL is becoming “Punter U” by former VFL’s.

Former Vols running back Alvin Kamara has been one of the best running backs in the NFL this season. Through five games, he ranks 13th in rushing yards with 299 and five touchdowns. Where Kamara is really impressive is catching the ball out of the backfield.

However, this week he was overshadowed by the return of Mark Ingram. What in the world is Sean Peyton doing? Why stop feeding one of the best running back in the league?

Moving on to positive news, former Vols wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson has scored a touchdown in back-to-back games.

Against the Indianapolis Colts on Thursday night, Brady and Patterson hooked up for a one-yard touchdown to put the Patriots up 7-0.

Speaking of “Punter U,” former Vols punter Michael Palardy had himself a game. After signing a three-year contract extension, Palardy had one of the best games of his career.

One of his punts led to a score for the punt coverage. And, he was the holder for the Gano’s game-winning 63-yard field goal.

There were a few former Vols who saw limited action and it is just a matter of time that they receive more action.

Jason Croom (Bills) – 21 snaps

Rashaan Gaulden (Panthers) – 8 snaps

Jalen Reeves-Maybin (Lions) – 32 snaps

Justin Coleman (Seahawks) – 63 snaps

Cameron Sutton (Steelers) – 29 snaps

As always we will keep you posted on the great things VFL’s are doing in the NFL. Maybe after the Saints’ bye week, Sean Peyton will stop pulling a Butch Jones and give Alvin Kamara the football.
